The Right Ventricle Best Predicts the Race Performance in Amateur Ironman Athletes. We studied 38 Ironman triathlets which variables correlate with the competition time.Aspects of physique, training, as well as echocardiographical findings were collected. The variable right ventricular function, percent body fat, running speed in training, mass of the left ventricle and end-diastolic area of the right ventricle correlated best with the conclusion.
After correction of all variables in a multivariance analysis, percent body fat and end-diastolic area of the right ventricle were the decisive variables where the end-diastolic surface of the right ventricle remained the most important variable.
