Differences between men and women in freestyle swimming

Sex difference in age and performance in elite Swiss freestyle swimmers competing from 50 m to 1,500 m So far, very different numbers for the age of the best performance in the freestyle swimming have been described in the literature. That should have been located at the different collective and efforts of the investigated swimmer.From 50m to 1'500m freestyle, we examined the numbers of Switzerland’s best swimmers from the years 2006-2010. The women achieved the fastest times of 50m to 400m at the age of 20-21 years, over 800m at 25-27 years and over 1,500m at 24-25 years.For men, the age of the best performance was between 22-23 and 25-27 years for 50m to 1'500m. In the period of 10-29 years, the difference in performance over 50m from 2.2 ± 0.4% to 19.0 ± 6.7% increased, more than 100m from 2.4 ± 0.7% to 10.8 ± 2.8% and over 200m from 3.6 ± 1.9% to 10.2 ±3.4%.Over 400m, 800m and 1'500m there was no change, the differences were 6.9 ± 3.0% for 400m, 5.8 ± 3.5% for 800m and 9.7 ± 8.6% for 1'500m.

There was no difference between the sexes in the performance of 50m to 1'500m and the difference was 9.1 ± 2.5% on average. The numbers can be found under https://springerplus.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/2193-1801-3-228
