Caffeine Improves Triathlon Performance: A Field Study in Males and Females A South African group has examined the influence of caffeine on the performance of triathletes. In a randomized double-blind study in crossover design, triathlets got 6 mg caffeine per kg body weight 60 minutes before the burden. The intake of caffeine led to a reduction of 3.7% of the floating time and a reduction of 1.3% of the total time.It is recommended that athletes should take 45-60 minutes before starting to an Olympic triathlon 6 mg caffeine per kg body weight to improve the competition performance.
This should be successful in particular if the athlete does not regularly consume caffeine. The whole study can be found under https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29345161/
