Differences in Participation and Performance Trends in Age Group Half and Full Marathoners We have studied the development of half marathon and marathon from the period 2000 to 2010 for Switzerland. While the number of half marathon runners steadily increased, the marathon runners after 2005 came to a decrease. Most runners were in the age group 40-44 years both for half marathon as well as for marathon. In the half marathon, there was no change in performance in the age groups over the 10 years. For men, it came to a power reduction in age groups 30-34, 40-44 and 50-54 years. In contrast, the marathon runners in ages 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49 and 50-54 years improved performance. Even with men, the marathon in ages 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 45-49 and 55-59 years came to an improvement.

Obviously, it came in the decade examined to stabilize the performance in the half marathon despite the increase in the number of participants while in the marathon to improve the performance despite acceptance of the number of participants.
